A total of 8366 were feted during the University of Rwanda 4th Graduation at Amahoro Stadium on 25thAugust 2017. The graduation saw a range of graduands being conferred and awarded with PhDs, Postgraduates, Degrees and Diploma that are offered in different UR Colleges. The Ceremony was officiated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi commended graduates for their determination and commitment which was paid off with the award of degrees and told them that their country, continent as well as the entire world is expecting a lot from them. He also told the University of Rwanda that there is a big role to play to boost and sustain quality of Education to impact the economic development for better future of the country.

Murekezi further challenged graduates to make a positive difference in people’s lives by establishing successful business through creativity and innovation.
“To be successful in your future lives, you have to think big and be innovators, create jobs instead of seeking them” He said.
According to Prof. Phil Cotton the University of Rwanda Vice Chancellor, the graduation also marked the celebration of the leadership of Rwanda with H.E Paul Kagame the President of the Republic of Rwanda at the helm. He also hailed the leadership of faculty, staff and students at the University of Rwanda for their commitment that culminated to the achievement to the graduation milestone.

Cotton promised that the University of Rwanda will carry on serving young people by working hard to great pace of discovery, development, excitement and inspiration.
Among the speakers at the event was Mr Damas Ntwali who addressed the congregation on behalf of graduates. He expressed his gratitude to the University leadership, lecturers and the wider University community for their tremendous contribution which will enable them to stand for the bright future of the nation. He also pledged strong commitment to continue building a more prosperous country that fits all citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Clarisse Iribagiza the Vice President of the University Alumni called on graduates to strive to find problems in the community and try to find ways to solve them. She also exhorted them to join the University Alumni which, according to her is a place to leverage and accomplish their future endeavors.

In the course of 2017 graduation, the University of Rwanda through its six Colleges produced 2 graduates with PhD and 275 with Masters. Graduates with Postgraduate Diploma were 311 while 5873 graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees. Besides, More than 985 graduated with Advanced Diploma and 919 with Diploma. Of the total graduates, 3251 were female.
All the Degrees and Diploma were awarded and conferred upon by the University of Rwanda Chancellor, Dr Mike O’Neal who asked graduates to give back to the community because the country and parents have invested a lot in them.
